About Me

My name is Kayla Devereux, and I am a Language & International Major with an emphasis in French, graduating in May of 2024 from Clemson University. Upon graduating, I plan to become a physician's assistant in a gynecology office or work in a women's clinic in under-resourced communities. Though I am currently focusing on my French-related studies, I plan to pick up other languages, such as Spanish and Korean. I am open-minded, passionate, and great at resolving conflicts.

Growing up as an African American/Filipina in the South, I have constantly been exposed to issues related to inequalities and inequities that affect all people, specifically in middle to low-income communities. Though inequities affect all areas of a person's life, they can prove fatal when they impact their health and well-being. With this knowledge and my privilege of studying at an institution like Clemson University, I aim to educate myself by experiencing different cultures and using this knowledge within a healthcare setting. My second mission is to inform people of the importance of cultural humility. Throughout life, and even more so during my time studying at Clemson University, I have grown to understand the importance of amplifying other marginalized peoples' voices and empathizing with people from different backgrounds.

Throughout life, I have always prioritized diversity, inclusivity, and open-mindedness. Though I am in a constant state of learning and practice, I am thrilled to have the privilege of pursuing a study that allows me to educate people on the importance of equity and equality in the healthcare system and amplify the voices of marginalized people around the world.
