My partner and I were assigned to review and write about the effectiveness of the communication theory used by a Health Campaign led by the CDC called HEAR HER. We analyzed the effectiveness of the campaign’s communication strategies by using the Audience-Channel-Message-Evaluation (ACME) Framework. The HEAR HER campaign highlights the prevalence of birth-related complications/mortality and how these complications affect different populations. The campaign aims to bring awareness to the issue and how to support women who may be experiencing and struggling with these complications. While creating this assignment and giving the corresponding presentation to the class with my partner, I became increasingly passionate about women’s health (specifically in under-resourced communities). Although I’m not a big fan of communications classes, I improved on those skills while focusing on a topic that means a lot to me.
Throughout my Global Health course, we focused on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their role in improving a country's/community's global health. For our final paper, we had to choose a middle-lower income country and develop solutions that address pertinent health issues within that country, addressing 4 of the 17 SDGs experiencing significant challenges. We used the Sustainable Development Report to identify these issues, as well as research and the information we've learned from the course throughout the semester, to complete the assignment. With this assignment, we were able to narrow down and identify the most severe challenges and critically think about different risk factors, social determinants, environmental factors, etc. and how they play a role in the country's public health.
