For this assignment, we were tasked to choose a painting within the Musée des Beaux-Arts and analyze different artistic/stylistic elements found within the painting. Through this assignment, we learned how to dissect art pieces and understand how French history and culture are reflected in these elements. We also had to write about our chosen pieces in French, allowing us to practice our French writing and comprehension skills. As someone who has never taken an art class outside of band class and middle school art, analyzing fine art was something that I could appreciate but was not a hobby of mine. Learning about art through the use of the French language adds another layer of complexity to my French language skills, bringing me even closer to achieving fluency.
In this assignment, the class was given three pieces of music composed by French artists during the 17th and 18th centuries. We were each asked to pick one of the pieces and write an essay reflecting on the different musical elements while generating a story that reflects the chosen piece. We were assigned multiple mini-writing assignments that allowed us to practice our French writing skills while developing other skills, such as creativity and narrative writing. Ever since I could remember, I have had an immense love for music. Through this assignment, I strengthened my French language skills by eagerly analyzing a subject and hobby I am most passionate about.
